jensandClaude Sonnet 5 671e0c2474 fix: heater task permanently died after a mid-brew unplug, never recovered
Root cause (from the brewpi Pi's log): HendiCtrl.disconnect() only
caught HendiException (a protocol-level NAK), but a genuine unplug
fails deep inside pyserial itself - flushInput()/readline() raise
termios.error/OSError on the now-dead fd. That escaped disconnect()
uncaught (skipping self.ser.close() too), then kept propagating up
through every caller that invoked disconnect() from its own except
handler (HeaterHendi.process()/activate(), AHeater.open()'s
context-manager exit), all the way out of HeaterTask.on_process()'s
coroutine entirely. Nothing restarts a dead ATask, so the heater's
process()/duty-cycle loop was gone for the rest of the process's
life - reconnecting afterward changed `connected` back to True but
nothing was left running to ever call process() again.

Fixes:
- HendiCtrl.disconnect() now catches broadly and always closes the
  port, matching Pololu1376.disconnect()'s already-correct pattern.
- HeaterTask/StirrerTask.on_process() gain an outer retry loop as a
  safety net: even an unanticipated exception now logs, marks
  disconnected, and re-enters rather than permanently killing the
  task.

Verified by reproducing the exact failure (comm error raising a raw
OSError, not HendiException) against a fake device - the task now
survives and resumes process()ing once reconnected.

jensandClaude Sonnet 5 7b162cf1f5 refactor: drop firmware-version display, move Enable toggle to Controller
Firmware version is already printed to the log at connect() time
(HendiCtrl/Pololu1376) - remove the live GUI/websocket firmware
reporting entirely (Connectable, HeaterHendi/StirrerPololu1376,
Heater/StirrerTask, web GUI) as redundant.

Also move the Heater panel's Closed-loop checkbox into the Controller
panel and rename it "Enable" - the Controller panel now shows a
live Enabled (green) / Disabled (gray) status badge next to its
heading, matching the Connected/Disconnected badges on the Heater/
Stirrer panels.

jensandClaude Sonnet 5 069fc352bc fix: guard connection-state callbacks against no running event loop
The previous hotfix's disconnect()-on-comm-error path can now fire
during server/brewpi.py's own final best-effort hardware-release
cleanup (finally: block's heater.close()/stirrer.activate(False)),
which runs after the event loop has already stopped - previously
nothing about hardware teardown touched an AttributeChange-tracked
field, so this path was dormant. asyncio.create_task() there raises
RuntimeError: no running event loop, crashing the shutdown sequence.

Adds fire_and_forget() (tasks/task.py) - asyncio.create_task() that
silently drops the message instead of raising when there's no loop to
schedule on - and uses it for the Connected/FirmwareVersion broadcasts.
SudTask.check_connections() also now no-ops entirely without a running
loop, since self.sud.stop() cascades into further unguarded
create_task() calls (on_state_changed, heater_task.shutdown(), ...)
that a stopped loop can't help with anyway.

Reproduced and verified fixed directly against HeaterTask/HeaterHendi
with no event loop running (mirrors the exact server/brewpi.py
shutdown-time call path that crashed on the brewpi Pi).

jensandClaude Sonnet 5 f20e617d81 feat: add connect/disconnect status for real heater/stirrer hardware
Heater and Stirrer can be real serial hardware (hendi, Pololu1376), but
there was no connection concept at all - the constructors opened the
port and crashed the whole server if the device was missing, with no
way to see connection status or firmware version and no way to
reconnect without a restart.

Adds an observable Connectable mixin (components/connectable.py) shared
by AHeater/AStirrer; real devices defer opening the serial port to an
explicit connect(), auto-connect on server startup, and surface
Connected/FirmwareVersion/Simulated plus manual Connect/Disconnect over
the web GUI. Heating/stirring and Sud Start are all gated on connection
state, and a disconnect mid-brew force-stops the run via the same path
as a manual Stop.

jensandClaude Sonnet 5 698c019581 refactor: make ATemperatureSensor's temp observable directly on the sensor
TempSensorSim/TempSensor_max31865's temperature() now stores its
reading on self.temp, so ATemperatureSensor's inherited AttributeChange
(previously never triggered by anything) actually fires. TempSensorTask
no longer keeps its own shadow copy of the reading - it registers its
websocket-push callback on self.sensor directly and just drives the
read each tick; server/brewpi.py's TC-feeding registration moved from
sensor_task to sensor for the same reason.

Priming read happens before registering the callback (not after) since
all tasks are built synchronously at module level, before the asyncio
event loop starts - registering first would fire on_temp_changed's
asyncio.create_task() with no running loop.

jensandClaude Sonnet 5 0382bb01aa fix: stamp PlantParams with each logger's own elapsed, not Sud.elapsed
log_plant_params() stored whatever elapsed it was handed - always
Sud.elapsed - regardless of which logger's own Samples.t timeline it
needed to match. SudLogTask._elapsed() is Sud.elapsed, so its PlantParams
lined up fine, but ServerLogTask._elapsed() is a separate tick counter
since server startup - using Sud.elapsed there put PlantParams.t on a
different scale than its own Samples.t entirely, causing
utils/replay_sim.py to apply grain/water-mass changes at the wrong point
when replaying a server-session log (spotted by comparing its output for
log_latest.json vs log_latest_sud.json from the same session).

Fixed by dropping the elapsed parameter - log_plant_params(params) now
stamps with self._elapsed(), so each logger always uses its own correct
timeline. Cascades into SudTask.set_on_plant_params()'s callback signature
and its wiring in server/brewpi.py.

jensandClaude Sonnet 5 a495e758fd feat: always write a fixed-name copy of server/sud logs, use .json for sud logs
Alongside the dated log files, ServerLogTask/SudLogTask now also write
(and overwrite) a fixed-name copy on every write() - logs/log_latest.json
and logs/log_latest_sud.json - so a dashboard/tail-style consumer can
point at one unchanging path instead of tracking the current run's
timestamped filename.

Also switches SudLogTask's own dated/latest filenames from .log to .json,
matching what they've always actually contained. This incidentally fixes
utils/analyze_log.py's two-argument CLI form, which already assumed a
.json extension for sud logs.

jensandClaude Sonnet 5 da7e954b7c fix: make sim_warp_factor real-hardware-safe and sud logs forecast-reproducible
sim_warp_factor was scaling DT_TASK unconditionally, including against real
hardware, and was leaking into recorded sample timestamps via wall-clock
time - both violate its intended meaning (a reciprocal scale on task wait
time only). Clamp it to 1.0 whenever Heater.type isn't "sim", and track
elapsed time via tick-counted accumulators (Sud.elapsed for SudLogTask, a
matching one for ServerLogTask) instead of time.monotonic().

Sud/server logs now also carry HeaterPowers, the effective SimWarpFactor,
the raw Doc, a correct Name, and ForecastAnchors (one entry per real
_reanchor_forecast() trigger) - enough for utils/analyze_log.py to rebuild
a SudForecastEstimator and replay the exact same splice-per-transition
forecast correction offline that a live client sees, replacing the old
(always-dead) forecast_*.json sidecar lookup.

Two bugs found and fixed along the way:
- ServerLogTask's periodic wall-clock checkpoint had no way to know a
  SudLogTask run had just ended, so it would immediately re-write the
  just-completed log with PlantParams/ForecastAnchors cleared back to
  empty. Gated the checkpoint on _should_sample().
- _reanchor_forecast() truncated the old forecast against real elapsed
  time, which can end up numerically less than the old forecast's own
  (very wrong) speculative timestamps once a WAIT_USER confirmation runs
  long - leaving a "ghost" segment instead of a clean cut. Truncate
  against forecast_step_starts[index] instead, which lives in the same
  coordinate space as the forecast being cut.

jensandClaude Sonnet 4.6 9f221c5d19 fix: re-enable closed-loop on Sud start regardless of client
HeaterTask.shutdown() switched the heater to open-loop when a brew
ended, but nothing switched it back when a new Sud was started. The
browser happened to send {ClosedLoop: true} as part of its UI setup,
so its connect-and-start path worked; PyQt (and any other client that
doesn't send that message) left the heater in open-loop and the TC
never drove it.

Add SudTask._on_start / set_on_start() hook, HeaterTask.start_closed_loop()
(mirror of shutdown()), and wire them in brewpi.py so the server
switches to closed-loop and broadcasts the new state to all clients the
moment any client starts a brew.

jensandClaude Sonnet 4.6 57c23f293a fix: embed dt and startup plant params in server log; open-loop replay_sim
server/brewpi.py: pass physics DT to ServerLogTask (not wall-clock DT_TASK)
so logs carry the correct integration timestep; log startup plant params as
the first PlantParams event so replay_sim can reconstruct them even when no
Sud is ever loaded (previously fell back to hardcoded defaults, causing ~3°C
temperature offset in replay).

tasks/server_log.py: accept and embed dt in log JSON; switch
log_plant_params() to wall-clock monotonic time (same base as sample t),
since the elapsed argument was simulated time and not comparable.

utils/replay_sim.py: switch to open-loop replay (plant driven by logged
power_eff, not sim controller output); use PidFactory so Smith vs Normal
controller type is honoured; set Td=0 in replay plant for Smith mode (logged
temp_ist is already Smith-corrected); feed Smith predictor's internal model
with real power; apply embedded PlantParams mid-run; prefer embedded dt over
sample-based fallback; clamp sim power ≥ 0; replace meaningless sim-power
trace in power subplot with power_set vs power_eff from the log.

jensandClaude Sonnet 4.6 dc687c3559 feat: embed config in server log; replay_sim takes a single log path
ServerLogTask now embeds the full config in its JSON output, matching
SudLogTask — so replay_sim and analyze_log work on server logs without
needing a separate config file.

replay_sim.py switches from two positional args (date_time, sud_name) to
a single log file path, with config and plant params resolved from the
log's embedded "Config"/"PlantParams" sections when present and falling
back to config.json / hardcoded defaults for older logs.

jensandClaude Sonnet 4.6 6d481d7764 Shut heater off on brew end (DONE) and stop (IDLE)
Adds HeaterTask.shutdown() which switches to open-loop at power 0,
disables TC, and broadcasts ClosedLoop=false to clients so the browser
checkbox unchecks immediately. SudTask fires it via a new set_on_end()
callback whenever state reaches DONE or IDLE, giving both a completed
schedule and a manual Stop the same safe behaviour: stirrer and heater
both off, no heater left running unattended.

Re-enabling after shutdown: check the closed-loop checkbox (sends
ClosedLoop=true → TC re-enabled) or adjust the power slider directly;
the next brew's Play press already sends ClosedLoop=true automatically.

jensandClaude Sonnet 4.6 8714a140bb Fix resume not resetting temp soll for steps that inherit temperature
Steps with no 'temperature' field inherit their target from a prior step
(temperature=None in the resolved schedule). The resume-from-pause code
only called set_theta_soll when the current step had an explicit temperature,
so any manual setpoint change made during pause was never reverted for
inherited steps (e.g. sud_0010 steps 2-3 both hold at step 1's 57 °C).

Fix: save theta_soll_set at pause time; use it as fallback on resume when
the current step's temperature is None. Also set initialTempSollSync=true
in the browser on play so the slider accepts the next server Soll push
regardless of message arrival order relative to the State update.

jensandClaude Sonnet 4.6 f55d085ae4 Add Closed-loop/Open-loop heater control mode
Closed-loop (default, checkbox checked): TC has exclusive control over
the heater; temp-soll and heatrate-soll sliders are active; direct
heater power entry is disabled. TC now stays enabled at server startup
and whenever closed-loop mode is active — SudTask no longer disables it
on IDLE/DONE, so adjusting temp-soll manually with no sud running
immediately drives the heater via the TC.

Open-loop (checkbox unchecked, only selectable when paused/stopped):
TC is disconnected from the heater; only the heater-power slider is
active. Switching back to closed-loop resets power_soll to 0 and
re-enables the TC.

On play, the mode is automatically reset to closed-loop.

jensandClaude Sonnet 4.6 2913b41cab Fix elapsed showing --:-- at DONE, and energy not reset on restart
sud_elapsed_seconds is intentionally reset to None once a run leaves
a running state (it gates the forecast plot's dynamic-vs-static view
switch) - but the status bar/Progress tab reused it too, so they lost
the final total exactly when it mattered most: right as the run
finished. Added sud_elapsed_last, which only ever gets overwritten by
a real 'Elapsed' push and is reset on a fresh Start/Load, for those
two displays to use instead.

Separately, a fresh Start (restarting an already-loaded, now IDLE/
DONE schedule) never sent a new Load, so SudTask's energy bookkeeping
- previously only reset in the Load handler - kept showing the
previous run's banked totals until each step was revisited. Now also
reset on a fresh Start (not a Pause->resume, which should keep it).

used for the ramp->hold phase switch), including the final transition
to DONE; reset on every fresh Load.

jensandClaude Sonnet 4.6 8896f216d1 Fix Progress tab highlighting the wrong step on reconnect/Save
Reconnecting to (or any client-side Save fetch of) an already-running
Sud showed the wrong step active and bogus remaining times, traced to
two independent bugs:

- recv()'s 'Save' handler always called send_forecast(doc), which
  resimulates the *entire* schedule cold from step 0 - fine for a
  not-yet-started Sud, but for one already running it silently
  overwrote the forecast/forecast_step_starts that _reanchor_forecast()
  had been accurately, continuously maintaining with a context-free
  "starting now" guess. Now skipped whenever a run is already in
  progress, re-sending what's already there instead.

- _reanchor_forecast() recomputes each step's real start time
  asynchronously, so that recomputation can itself be (and routinely
  is) superseded and discarded by a later transition's reanchor before
  ever committing - and the next *successful* commit's "everything
  before my index is real" filter would then preserve whatever stale
  prediction was sitting there before, sometimes for a step that
  hadn't even happened yet by the schedule's real position.
  on_step_changed() now also records each step's start synchronously,
  immune to that race.

- Client-side, update_sud_forecast() unconditionally reset sud_step_
  index/forecast_step_starts/etc. on every 'Json' push - correct for
  an actual Load, but connect()'s unconditional Save request produces
  a standalone 'Json' push (no Step/State alongside it, unlike the
  subscribe-triggered replay) for the *same* already-running schedule,
  wiping the correct state with nothing left to restore it. Now only
  resets when the incoming doc actually differs from the last one
  processed.

jensandClaude Sonnet 4.6 e49af8a347 Add a Progress tab: one step plate per schedule step, stacked
A glance at the Automatic tab's forecast plot couldn't show where the
brew actually stands within its own schedule - just a curve. The new
Progress tab stacks one StepPlate per step instead: an LED for its
status (off/done/active-ramping/active-holding), its resolved target
temp, masses and ramp rate, plus, for whichever step is currently
active, live actual temp and stirrer state (frozen at their last
value once that step finishes) and a forecast-based remaining-time
countdown.

The countdown needs to know where each step actually begins in the
forecast's timeline, which the server didn't track before -
SudForecastEstimator.estimate() now returns per-step start times
alongside t/theta, and SudTask threads them through send_forecast()/
_reanchor_forecast() the same way (including the same generation-guard
against the concurrent-call race) as a new 'StepStarts' field on the
'Forecast' message.

jensandClaude Sonnet 4.6 17e8386002 Generalize Sud forecast reanchoring to every step boundary
Reanchoring used to only happen when a user confirmed a WAIT_USER
step, so anything the schedule advanced through on its own (a ramp
reaching target, a hold timing out) left the forecast showing a
stale, increasingly wrong prediction once reality diverged from it.
_reanchor_forecast() now fires from on_step_changed() on every real
transition, splicing in a fresh simulation anchored at the real
current temperature/elapsed time instead.

Also fixes two bugs surfaced while testing that change:
- estimate()'s early-return for an empty/not-yet-loaded schedule still
  returned the old 4-tuple shape, crashing every connection before a
  Sud was ever Loaded.
- send_forecast() and _reanchor_forecast() can run concurrently (e.g.
  a fresh Start triggers both at once), and whichever resumed second
  after its own worker-thread simulation would blindly splice its tail
  onto whatever the other had already written, producing a spurious
  connecting line across the plot. Both now carry a generation counter
  and discard their result if a newer call has since committed.

jens f035e1decd GUI: add a spinbox to pre-dial the simulated Pot's reset temperature
btn_pot_reset always reset the simulated Pot to the ambient
temperature. Add doubleSpinBox_pot_temp next to it (shown/hidden
together, same as the button) so the user can dial in a different
starting temperature before committing it - it seeds from the same
remembered ambient value on startup but is otherwise independent and
not persisted.

tasks/pot.py's PotTask.recv() now resets the plant to whatever
temperature the 'Reset' message carries, falling back to ambient for
the bare True a caller might still send.

jens 616cf113f2 Mirror raw sensor temp through when the controller isn't configured yet
is_configured() (Smith's model plant params, only ever set once a Sud
loads) gates TcTask's call to tc.process() - the only place theta_ist/
heatrate_ist/heatrate_soll get updated and broadcast. Right after
server start, before any Sud has ever loaded, that left them frozen at
their __init__ defaults forever, so the GUI's Ist Temp/Rate and Soll
Rate displays never showed anything on connect. Mirror the raw sensor
reading through instead, with rates at 0 since there's no controller
output yet.
2026-06-23 19:11:50 +02:00
jensandClaude Sonnet 4.6 d5a8c2422b Anchor the forecast to the real current temperature, not a cold start
send_forecast() was defaulting to a cold start at ambient (SudForecastEstimator.
estimate()'s default when start_theta isn't passed), so the forecast's t=0
never matched whatever temperature the pot actually was at - understating
how long the first ramp would really take whenever it wasn't already cold.

Anchoring at tc.get_theta_ist() seemed like the obvious fix but isn't
reliable right after Load: that's only ever updated inside process(), which
a model-based controller (Smith) doesn't run until its plant params are
configured - which now only happens once a Sud is loaded (see the
"inert until loaded" change) - so theta_ist can still be sitting at its
never-updated __init__ default of 0 the instant send_forecast() reads it.
Added TempControllerBase.get_theta_ist_set() (mirroring the existing
get_theta_soll_set()) - the raw sensor reading, updated the instant a
reading comes in regardless of whether process() has ever run - and used
that instead.

That still leaves a gap between Load and Start: the real temperature can
drift (time passing, manual heating via the Manual tab) between loading a
schedule and actually starting it, leaving the forecast anchored to a
now-stale temperature. recv()'s 'Start' handler now re-sends the forecast,
freshly anchored to the real temperature at that moment, on every fresh
start (not a Pause->resume, which keeps the already-established forecast
rather than discarding it mid-run).

jensandClaude Sonnet 4.6 442b032117 Cap the forecast sent over the wire to avoid exceeding WebSocket max_size
A fine enough dt over a multi-hour brew can produce a single Forecast
message several MB in size - large enough to exceed the websockets
library's default 1 MiB max_size and get the connection closed outright
(code 1009) right after Load. Confirmed by reproducing with dt=0.1: the
276KB message at dt=1 was safe, but the equivalent ~2.7MB at dt=0.1
reliably disconnected the client.

SudTask._send_forecast() now thins T/Theta to at most MAX_FORECAST_POINTS
(1000) via simple decimation before sending - self.forecast_t/
forecast_theta themselves stay at full simulated resolution, since
_continue_forecast_after_confirm()'s bisect-based truncation needs exact
t-value matches, and SudLogTask's logs/forecast_*.json wants full
fidelity. Only the copy actually sent to clients is thinned, which the
GUI's few-hundred-pixel-wide plot can't show the difference from anyway.

Verified against a live server+client over the real WebSocket connection
with the dt=0.1 config that originally triggered the disconnect: 4/4
clean runs, forecast arrives capped under 1000 points, and the rendered
plot is visually identical to the un-downsampled version.

jensandClaude Sonnet 4.6 5ccfcef679 Add explicit initial grain_mass/water_mass to the Sud doc
Sud now parses top-level grain_mass/water_mass (sibling to pot_mass/
pot_material/L/Td, defaulting to 0/0) - what's actually in the pot before
the brew starts, as opposed to default.step's grain_mass/water_mass, which
is just inert template filler. All sude/*.json docs gain explicit values
matching what their first step already resolved to.

tasks/sud.py's apply_plant_params() now takes grain_mass/water_mass
directly instead of a step dict: on_step_changed() still passes the active
step's own (these vary as malt goes in/water boils off), but the Load
handler now reads Sud.grain_mass/water_mass directly instead of parsing
schedule[0]. The GUI's status-line mass preview (shown immediately on
Load, before Start) does the same.

Also fixes a latent bug found along the way: _continue_forecast_after_confirm()'s
reconstructed sub-doc was missing L/Td/grain_mass/water_mass entirely,
silently falling back to generic defaults instead of the real Sud's own
values - invisible only because every current sude/*.json happens to use
those same defaults.

jensandClaude Sonnet 4.6 77e68afef1 Keep plant/temp control inert until a Sud is actually loaded
server/brewpi.py no longer pre-configures the real Pot's or Smith's model's
plant params at startup - there's no longer any generic baseline at all,
since the only source of truth is now a loaded Sud's own doc (applied via
tasks/sud.py's SudTask.apply_plant_params(), on Load and on every step).
Ambient temperature and PID gains stay configured at startup, since
they're independent of any Sud (global setting / hardware tuning, not
doc-derived).

Add Pot.is_configured() (already existed)/TempControllerBase.is_configured()/
TempController(Smith).is_configured(), and have tasks/pot.py's PotTask and
tasks/tempctrl.py's TcTask skip process() while not yet configured instead
of letting it raise - so plant and temp control are genuinely inert (not
crashing) until a Sud is loaded. "Normal" has no plant-model dependency,
so it stays active regardless.

Also refreshes README.md: removes stale tracer.py/.mat references (already
removed in an earlier commit), documents SudLogTask's JSON logs, the doc's
L/Td fields, and this inert-until-loaded behavior.

jensandClaude Sonnet 4.6 51add6fd56 Apply a loaded Sud's plant params immediately, not just once a run starts
on_step_changed() only re-applies plant params (pot mass/material, L, Td,
grain/water mass) once Sud.step actually changes to a real step - which
doesn't happen on Load (Sud.load() resets step to None), so the controller
kept using whatever the previously loaded Sud (or the generic startup
baseline) had until Start. SudTask.recv()'s Load handler now calls
apply_plant_params() against the new schedule's first step right away, so
the controller already matches the expected plant the moment a Sud is
loaded.

Also replaces server/brewpi.py's hardcoded DEFAULT_PLANT_PARAMS with a
baseline derived from Sud's own (still-unloaded) generic defaults
(EMPTY_SUD's pot_mass/L/Td), used only for the brief startup window before
any real Sud is ever loaded - numerically identical to the old constant.

jensandClaude Sonnet 4.6 f1688d3c71 Derive Pot's L/Td from the Sud doc instead of a fixed server default
Sud now parses top-level L/Td fields from sude/*.json (defaulting to 0.2/30,
matching the old hardcoded server constants), and derive_plant_params()
returns them alongside M/C - constant for the whole brew, unlike M/C which
vary per step with grain/water mass. All sude/*.json docs gain explicit
L/Td fields.

Callers (tasks/sud.py, SudForecastEstimator, demo_sud.py) switch from the
narrow set_thermal_params(M, C)/set_model_params(M, C) to the full
set_plant_params(params)/set_model_plant_params(params), since
derive_plant_params() now always returns all four keys; both narrow setters
are removed as dead code.

Caught along the way: Pot.set_plant_params() unconditionally rebuilt the
Delay ring buffer, which was harmless when only ever called once at
construction - but now running on every Sud step change, it was wiping
in-flight delayed power at each step boundary. Fixed to only rebuild when
Td actually changes; verified this restores the exact original forecast
result for sud_0010.json.

jensandClaude Sonnet 4.6 031b13ca2c Fill the post-confirm forecast gap with the real setpoint, not a mid-ramp snapshot
_continue_forecast_after_confirm()'s bridge was repeating forecast_theta[-1]
to cover the real-world wait, but that's whatever value the simulation
happened to log the instant WAIT_USER tripped - often still mid-ramp, not the
step's actual hold target. The real controller stays enabled and actively
holding throughout WAIT_USER, so capture its setpoint (tc.get_theta_soll_set())
in recv() before calling Sud.confirm() - confirming synchronously pushes the
next step's own target onto it - and use that to fill the gap instead.

A user_wait_for_continue step used to stop SudForecastEstimator.estimate()
dead, so the GUI's forecast plot only ever showed the first segment on Load.

jensandClaude Sonnet 4.6 57b86bc075 Make the Sud forecast piecewise, computed once per segment
Previously, the dynamic forecast's projected remainder was fully
recomputed on every step change, and a step requiring user
confirmation was simulated with zero added delay ("count it as
instant for estimation purposes"). Both undercut the actual goal of
the forecast: an honest comparison between real control behavior and
a simulation-based prediction. A forecast that keeps re-anchoring
itself to match reality isn't a useful baseline to compare reality
against, and assuming zero confirmation delay quietly understates the
schedule.

components/sud_forecast.py: SudForecastEstimator.estimate() now stops
simulating at the first step requiring user confirmation instead of
auto-confirming, returning the final SudState alongside the data so
the caller knows whether it stopped there or actually finished.

tasks/sud.py: SudTask now accumulates the forecast across piecewise
segments (forecast_t/forecast_theta). send_forecast() computes only
the first segment, at Load/Save. The real Confirm handler triggers
_continue_forecast_after_confirm(), which computes the next segment
anchored at the real elapsed time and real current temperature -
bridging the unforecastable wait with a flat segment rather than
guessing at its length - and sends the updated, stitched Forecast
(now carrying a Finished flag). The old per-step-change
RemainingForecast recompute is gone entirely, along with
remaining_schedule()/send_remaining_forecast().

client/brewpi_gui.py: SudForecastPlot redesigned around this - the
dashed line is the fixed, piecewise forecast (locked axes, untouched
except when a genuinely new segment arrives via show_forecast());
the solid line is purely the actual measured trace
(show_dynamic(), now only touching that). extend_forecast_while_
waiting() repeats the forecast's last value while the real Sud sits
in WAIT_USER, so the dashed line doesn't just stop, then snaps to the
new segment the moment the real confirmation appends one.

Verified via a raw-protocol test (segment boundaries, the Finished
flag, and real-time stitching across a confirm delay) and visually in
the GUI (locked dashed forecast, "X min so far total" title while
incomplete, solid/dashed comparison rendering with realistic
convergence/divergence).

jensandClaude Sonnet 4.6 8c23a2c6ac Clear the Sud Load-rejection Error so it doesn't get replayed as stale
WsServerMultiUser.global_state persists every message ever broadcast
and replays the full accumulated state to any client that subscribes
- by design, so a client connecting fresh or reconnecting mid-run
always gets the same complete picture (see README's new "State replay
on connect" section). That mechanism has no concept of "transient":
the {'Sud': {'Error': ...}} added for Load-rejection got treated as
durable state just like everything else, so any client connecting
after the fact - even one that never touched Load - got the stale
error replayed on connect. Confirmed live before this fix.

tasks/sud.py: send {'Sud': {'Error': None}} immediately after the
error itself, clearing it back to neutral in global_state.

client/brewpi_gui.py: on_sud_changed() treats a falsy Error as a
no-op instead of popping an empty dialog.

README.md: documents the underlying principle (client state replay
on connect, and the corollary that one-shot events need explicit
clearing) under a new Architecture subsection, and refreshes the Sud
channel/forecast sections to match this session's other changes
(Elapsed-based dynamic forecast anchoring instead of wall-clock time
times the nominal warp factor, Load's Error reply).

jensandClaude Sonnet 4.6 1af8c39926 Surface Sud's Load rejection as a server-driven error, not GUI guesswork
Sud.load() already refuses a new schedule while a run is in progress
(state not IDLE/DONE) - but tasks/sud.py's SudTask.recv() silently
dropped that refusal, and an earlier attempt to handle it client-side
by pre-emptively greying out the File menu based on the GUI's own
(replicated, laggy) view of sud_state was reverted: the intelligence
belongs on the server, which already knows definitively whether it's
running, not on the client guessing from a mirrored state that can
lag or miss the message that changed it.

tasks/sud.py: when Sud.load() returns False, send {'Sud': {'Error':
...}} explaining why, instead of doing nothing.

client/brewpi_gui.py: New/Save/Load Sud stay enabled unconditionally;
on_sud_changed() shows whatever 'Error' the server sends via
QMessageBox.warning(). on_action_sud_new()'s comment updated to match
(it goes through the same Load path, so gets the same rejection/error
for free).

Verified live: triggering Load while a run is in progress on an
isolated test server round-trips the Error over the wire and pops the
expected dialog ("Cannot load a new schedule while a run is in
progress - stop it first.").

jensandClaude Sonnet 4.6 44b1b0c705 Have Sud report its own tick-counted elapsed time to clients
Window._elapsed_min() (client/brewpi_gui.py) reconstructed the dynamic
forecast's x-axis from wall-clock time times the server's nominal
configured sim_warp_factor. But that warp factor is only nominal -
real asyncio/Python scheduling overhead across the 7 concurrent tasks
means the actually-achieved speedup runs measurably below it (~80x
instead of 100x, confirmed by timing HoldRemaining countdowns against
real elapsed time), especially under heavy message/print load. Since
the GUI's reconstruction assumed a precise, constant mapping, the live
measured trace visibly drifted behind the forecast - most visible on
short, transition-dense test schedules where the timing slip is a
large fraction of the total duration.

components/sud.py: Sud now tracks 'elapsed' (tick-counted simulated
seconds since the run started, frozen while PAUSED/IDLE/DONE, reset on
start()) - the ground truth for run progress, immune to real-world
pacing jitter. tasks/sud.py broadcasts it as {'Sud': {'Elapsed': ...}}.

client/brewpi_gui.py: replaced sud_start_time/sud_paused_total/
sud_pause_started_at and all the wall-clock reconstruction in
_elapsed_min() with sud_elapsed_seconds, set directly from the
server's 'Elapsed' broadcasts - simpler too, since pause-freezing is
now handled server-side rather than needing separate client-side
bookkeeping.
